Vice Chancellor’s Address
Professor Shola Ehindero – The Pioneer Vice Chancellor of Atiba University Oyo at the 2ND Matriculation Ceremony on the 23rd of March, 2019, urge students to take advantage of the unique opportunities in Atiba University – that is: concern for and commitment to students’ welfare, attractive and conducive learning environment, comparatively low tuition fees and built-in flexibility in the schedule of payment. He said that these unique opportunities in addition to the University’s commitment to quality of students’ intake, staff recruitment and high academic standard (partly informed by our close collaboration with Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, our mentor) will continue to attract students to Atiba University.
The VC decried how the incessant and desperate search for relevance and power by politicians across board has put the core values of the university at risk. He said “Today more than ever before, teachers, students and indeed the established culture of academics are in a shock and in a dilemma as regards the values to teach and propagate among undergraduates. This is because desperate self-centered politicians continue to debase and erode with shameless impunity and arrogance the core values of truth, fairness, honesty and justice, which are the pivots around which university teaching, learning research and character development revolve. Such progressive erosion and brazen invasion and redefinition of the concepts of truth, fairness and justice as we are witnessing today, question the core values of the university’s historic pursuit and commitment to truth, justice, hard work, fairness and the competitive processes leading to the achievement of these core values which invariably form the major thrust of the university system into which you are being formally admitted (matriculated) today.”
The Vice Chancellor reminded all about the Vision, Mission and the Strategic Objectives of Atiba University. He further admonished that having been so admitted as members of the university into the academic culture, matriculating students are required to imbibe the culture of the university including a strict adherence to its rules and regulations as well as reflecting in both learning and character the vision and motto of Atiba University.
He encouraged parents to to go round the ancient city of Oyo and see the tradition and culture of Yorubas for which Oyo town and her people are proud custodians. Atiba University matriculated a total of 72 students into Faculties of Arts, Social and Management Science, Allied Health Science, Natural and Applied Science and Law.
Facilitator’s Goodwill Message
Dr. James Adesokan Ojebode – Facilitator of Atiba University at the matriculation ceremony, likened Atiba University to Havard in terms of the values behind the administration of the university. He opined that what makes havard one of the most revered universities in the world is disciplined, professional and vibrant staff (both teaching and non-teaching) and also, focused and determined students. Dr. Ojebode while stressing that the university management will continue to build on these values and provide the students the best learning environment and opportunities, advised the students to cooperate with the university so they can be useful to themselves, their parents, the community, Nigeria , the world at large and God – that has given them life with a purpose.
Other speakers also took turn to speak to the matriculating students. They are Alhaji Abdulrahman Idris, Prince Adebayo Kamarise, Professor James Adeosun, Dr. Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola, Dr. Kola Adewoyin. They all spoke positively about the prospects of the university. They encouraged students to shun cultism and other vices. Furthermore, students challenged to seek self-reliance such that at the end of their studies they will be job creators rather than job seekers. Meanwhile, parents were encouraged to have confidence in the university because the university runs only accredited courses and that being mentored by the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile- Ife, Great Atiba will grow to become a household name associated with qualitative and proficient tertiary education.
